Pratovecchio´s main appeal is Piazza Garibaldi and its porticoes. Leaving town and heading west there is a signposted road leading to the Romanesque Pieve di Romena (Picture 3) and the 13th century Castello di Romena (Picture 2). The castle is not available for public viewing due to lack of safety. The castle occupied the place of an original Etruscan village. In its splendour it was huge and protected by three walls. It is said that Dante was inspired by the prison tower to create his Circles of Hell. From here you can walk down a pleasant trail into the valley.
