Surrounded by Emlia-Romagna, the Apuane Alps, the Garfagnana and Liguria, this jewel of a town  has remained relatively unknown to tourists.

Lunigiana may have been inhabited by a group of people who worshipped the moon, which would explain part of its name, "Luni". In the Middle Ages it was necessary for the noblemen to build castles for defense and in their fight for control of the Via Francigena.
