How to Get to/around/from

By boat: this main port offers regular services to Sardinia and Corsica leaving from Calata Carrara. Porto Mediceo is the departure point for ferries serving Capraia (duration: 2 ½ hours), Gorgona and Sardinia (duration: 11 hours, services: daily). Porto Nuovo, to the  north of Livorno has services operating to Sardinia.

Departure from Porto Mediceo: Toremar and Lloyd Sardegna connect Livorno and other destinations by ferry. Toremar (tel. 199 12 31 99;  www.toremar.it), Lloyd Sardegna (tel. 0565 22 23 00;  www.lloydsardegna.it)              
Departure from Stazione Marittima: Moby  (tel.199 30 30 40;  www.moby.it ) operates Bastia, Corsica (duration: 3-4 hours) and Olbia, Sardinia (length: 8 to 12 hours). Corsica ferries and Sardinia ferries (tel. 019 21 55 11; www.corsicaferries.com and www.sardiniaferries.com respectively) have services to Bastia, Corsica (duration: 4 hours, services 2-3  a week), to Golfo Aranci, Sardinia (duration: 6-9 hours, services:  4 a week) These services are daily in the summertime.

By bus: from Largo Duomo by ATL (tel. 0586 84 74 08 ), to  Cecina (duration: 1 hour, services: every 30 minutes),  Piombino (duration: 2 ¼ hours, services: 6 a day) and Pisa duration: 45 minutes, services: every 30 minutes).
ATL services the main station and Porto Mediceo (bus 1). Stazzione Marittima is served by bus 7, electric bus PB1, PB2 and PB3.  All of them stop at Pazza Grande on their journey.

By car or motorcycle: drive along the A12 . To head for Rome drive along the SS1.

By train: the line running from Rome to La Spezia stops at Livorno with other connections to Florence and Pisa. To Rome (duration: 3 to 4 hours, services: 12 a day),  Florence (duration: 1 ½ hours, services: 16 a day), to Pisa (duration: 15 minutes, services: every hour).
