Ravishing beaches (Picture 1), and a wide open bay with plenty of breeze, ideal for windsurfers, Golfo di Baratti also features the Parco Archeologico di Baratti e Populonia (Picture 3) (tel. 0565 2 90 02; www.parchivaldicornia.it) in Populonia. The archaeological park has Etruscan tombs including those of the Necropoli di San Cerbone. The tombs were located in the quarries left after the excavation of sandstone. This place is called Via delle Cave. It can take a good few hours to visit the whole park. Because of the scorching sun bring your hat, sun cream and trainers!
The admission ticket includes the guided tour from March to October, or you can explore on your own or accompanied by a good guide book.
