This hilly town of Etruscan origin was founded in the 8th century BC, it  later fell to Roman hands and centuries later became the home of Fra' Angelico, Luca Signorelli and Pietro da Cortona, and the location where scenes for the well-known film Under the Tuscan Sun were shot.
One of the main features of walled Cortona are its winding and enchanting cobbled lanes and the views of Val di Chiana and even Lake Trasimeno that can be enjoyed from here.
