This hillside village is worth a visit. It is located between Arezzo and Cortona and its excellent position was reason enough for it to end up in many power struggles. In the 14th century Florence took over.
The Pinacoteca (Art Gallery) (tel. 0575 65 74 66; Via del Cassero) showcases Taddeo Gaddi’s paintings. Off the Pinacoteca is the Museo Archeologico (www.icec-cf.it) which exhibits locally discovered artefacts.
If you are heading south to Cortona, the Castello di Montecchio (unfortunately unavailable for public viewing as today it is a private estate) is visible.
